What it does
HyperKey is a minimal menu bar app that turns Caps Lock into a dual-purpose key:
- Hold Caps Lock to use it as Hyper (Command + Shift + Control + Option) — one key for every custom shortcut.
- Tap Caps Lock to send F19, ready to bind in your favorite tools.
- Use Hyper + H/J/K/L as arrow keys, vim-style.
- Restores your original Caps Lock mapping when it quits.
- No analytics, no network access.
How it works
HyperKey remaps Caps Lock to F19 at the HID level with hidutil, which removes the usual Caps Lock delay and toggle quirks. It then watches key events just long enough to tell a tap from a hold: a tap sends F19, while any key pressed during a hold gains the Hyper modifiers.
